Kirti Singh (19), a resident of New Pannapuri Colony in Hapur district, died during treatment at hospital on Sunday evening. She was cremated at Ganga Ghat, Brijghat, in her hometown on Monday. She cannot come back, but justice has been served to us as the culprit is dead in a police encounter. His accomplice must be given strict punishment. Women should be provided with more security, Ravindra Singh, a loco pilot in the Indian Railway, told TOI.Ravindra said his daughter was a family-oriented girl who liked to spend time with her loved ones. She was brilliant in studies and always got good grades in school and college. On the day of the incident, she was waiting to board an auto after college and even spoke to us. We still cannot believe she is not with us anymore.Kriti completed her schooling from Tagore Shiksha Sadan Inter College in Hapur in 2022, and secured admission at a college in Lucknow. However, she did not want to leave her family and started preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination. After a year, she got a good rank and got into ABES college in Ghaziabad in 2023.Ravindra added, She wanted to become a computer engineer and was enrolled in BTech (Computer Science) 2023-24 batch. She had joined college just three weeks ago on October 9. We were planning to shift her into a college hostel, but as Ghaziabad is close to Hapur – less than an hour by public transport – she insisted on staying at home and traveling to college everyday with a friend. Shagun Sharma, 19, Kritis friend who lives in her neighborhood, said she always supported her in school. We were in school together from Class VI to XII. I was under-confident when I joined school, but Kirti stood by me, she said. She was good in academics and participated in extra-curricular activities and competitions in school. She painted well. We often talked about her mehndi-making acumen among friends. This was the first mobile phone given to her by her father. The incident has traumatised college-going students like me, she added.Following her death, ABES College announced suspension of classes on Monday. A condolence meet was held in front of Bhabha block in the college, a college official said.
