4 kids hurt as junked crackers burst, factory owner booked

MEERUT: Four children sustained burns after discarded crackers they were sorting to take home burst in Saharanpurs Satpura village on Tuesday evening. Ashish (13), Ritu (12), Sheetal (11) and Vikas (8) were returning from a function when they saw a pile of self-bursting crackers. They were sorting them when they burst. They suffered burns on their faces, hands, and legs.The incident occurred underBiharigarh police station limits. Saharanpur SP (rural) Sagar Jain told TOI, "The crackers were dumped around 1km from the factory. The factory owners have permission to produce self-bursting crackers but as per norms, they should dispose of the waste following certain guidelines. The factory was at fault, so the owner and workers have been booked."He added: "The kids began sorting crackers as they wanted to take them home. One kid burst a cracker which ignited the other crackers."The kids were rushed to hospital and were in a stable condition. Police registered an FIR and started a probe .
