Man killed in `3-decade-old family rivalry`

MEERUT: A 75-year-old retired head constable with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Salempur area of Bulandshahr while he was returning home after selling paddy on Monday evening. Police said Rambhool Singh, a resident of Bhainsroli village in Salempur, is another victim of a family dispute that dates back to 1992.Bulandshahar SSP Shlok Kumar said Rambhool had a three-decade-old dispute with his relatives, in which several people have been murdered on both sides."The rivalry started in 1992 after the murder of a man led to a gang war. People on both sides were killed in 1993 and 2003. Rambhool, among others, was sent to jail and he kept going in and coming out on bail. In 2021, he was released on bail and was living in the village," Kumar said. Police said the enmity continued between them even after 30 years. "A few suspects have been detained for his murder on the basis of a complaint filed by his family and teams formed to investigate the case," the SSP added.
