Neighbour booked for raping, threatening minor Dalit girl

Meerut: A 24-year-old man was booked for allegedly abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl in a village near Nai Mandi under Bulandshahr, said police on Wednesday. The incident surfaced when the victims family noticed a bump and took her to a doctor who confirmed she was five months pregnant. The girl didnt tell anyone about this as the accused had threatened to kill her.He also shot a video and threatened to circulate it. Police registered an FIR under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against the accused and his family. The accused is currently evading arrest. The case came to the attention of a senior police officer when Rukaiya shared her ordeal at a cafe for acid attack survivors. She had not filed an FIR at the time and therefore could not access government schemes for survivors. The arrest was made as part of a campaign to motivate women to speak out against injustice. Acid attacks were not specifically addressed in the Indian Penal Code until 2013, when special provisions were introduced for survivors.
