Summons to UP governor Anandiben Patel gets Budaun SDM suspended

MEERUT: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday suspended Budauns sub-divisional magistrate (judicial) for issuing "summons" to UP governor Anandiben Patel - under section 144 of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code - to appear before the court in a land dispute case.According to officials, the government cited a violation of Article 361 of the Constitution, which states that "No criminal proceedings whatsoever shall be instituted or continued against the President, or the governor or rajpramukh of a state, in any court during his term of office."The governors office was mentioned in the case after land of almost half an acre belonging to Katori Devi, an elderly woman, was allegedly "grabbed" by her kin Lekhraj.The propertys name was changed and transferred to Lekhraj. The incident took place at Loda Bahedi village in Civil Lines area of Budaun district.Earlier this year, a part of the land was acquired by the PWD and Lekhraj received compensation from the government.
