Village pradhans stage indefinite dharna to protest administration mistreatment

BIJNOR: More than 300 village pradhans gathered at the collectorate on Friday, staging an indefinite dharna to protest against alleged mistreatment at the hands of the police and local administration.We came to the collectorate to present a memorandum to the district magistrate. Addressed to CM Yogi, it outlines 23 critical issues, including corruption and the humiliation of village heads.However, no concerned official was available to receive it. Therefore, we have declared an indefinite dharna at the collectorate until our demands are met, Akhil Bhartiya Pradhan Sangathans district president, Sachin Malik, said. Any objection to their diktat would result in detentions, he added. Addressing the gathering at the collectorate, Malik alleged, The pradhans had been repeatedly highlighting various issues in the panchayats, but these problems remained unresolved. If our demands continue to fall on deaf ears, all gram pradhans are prepared to resign from their posts, he added. The pradhans alleged widespread corruption in the distribution of government schemes.They asserted that full rations were not being distributed at public distribution shops, and impoverished families were compelled to offer bribes to clerks to access government scheme benefits, such as housing assistance. When contacted, SDM Bijnor, Vijay Vardhan Tomar, said, We were in a meeting on Friday, and I just received information about the Pradhans protest.
