Uttar Pradesh: 17-year-old girl hangs self to death in Lakhimpur Kheri after her objectionable video clip goes viral

LAKHIMPUR KHERI: A 17-year-old girl ended her life in UPs Lakhimpur Kheri after a disturbing video of her went viral on social media, reportedly made by an individual from a different community. The incident has led to the suspension of a Station House Officer (SHO) and a comprehensive investigation into the matter.The victim was found hanging in her home on November 3, while her mother and sister were away.Superintendent of Police Ganesh Prasad Saha of Kheri stated that Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)Aditya Kumar Gautam has been assigned to investigate the case and ensure that the accused faces appropriate legal action.The SHO of Sampurn Nagar police station, Siyaram Verma, was suspended in connection with the case.Saha mentioned that the primary suspect, a 20-year-old youth from a different community, has been arrested. The police will thoroughly examine all aspects of the case as per the allegations outlined in the First Information Report (FIR).Law enforcement has registered a case against four individuals, including the main accused, his two brothers, and his father, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the POCSO Act, the IT Act, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.The Inspector General of the Lucknow range, Tarun Gaba, visited the scene and reassured the victims family of swift and effective action in the case.The family of the deceased has alleged that the accused and his family members were pressuring the minor to marry the accused. The victims sister claimed that the accused had been subjecting her sister to harassment and blackmail for an extended period, ultimately driving her to take her own life.Upon the victims body returning to her village after a post-mortem examination, local villagers staged a significant protest, placing her body on the road and causing damage to the property of the accuseds family. Local police attempted to prevent further property damage.The Kheri District Magistrate, Mahendra Bahadur Singh, along with SP Ganesh Prasad Saha, arrived at the scene to hold discussions with the grieving family and the demonstrators.
