MEERUT: A UP police head constable, Ombeer Singh, 48, has bagged a gold medal in the 22nd Asia Masters Athletics Championship-2023 in Philippines. Total 33 countries took part in the championship. Posted in Simbhaoli police station of Hapur, Singh joined UP police in 1995. He has been posted in Lucknow, Agra, Meerutand other districts in his tenure. He defeated a player from Iran in the hammer throw 45-50 kg category.After returning to Hapur on Friday, Singh told TOI that he was happy to see that he has made his country proud at an international level. My journey has never been easier as I have to practice sports along with a job. As a cop, we have a lot of responsibilities and hardly get any time to pursue our passion. However, my coach Yogendra Singh had always stood by me, said Singh.I have learnt a lot from the police sports academy which has made me reach such heights, he added. Singhs passion has now inspired his 16-year-old kid and his classmates who are taking training along with him for the past few years.His coach, Yogendra Singh, said, "Ombeer is focused and disciplined. He maintains good physical health at this age. I have been training him for nearly 10 years now. To prepare for this event, he trained for 6-8 hours daily.
