Over 1,300 criminal cases closed in UP in four months

MEERUT: Operation Trinetra in Uttar Pradesh, which involved installation of CCTV cameras in all 75 districts, helped solve 1,355 crime cases since its launch on July 10, as per data released by the UP DGP HQs on Friday.The solved casesincluded 209 loot and dacoity, 82 murders, 46 abductions, 32 cases of rape and sexual harassment, 574 thefts and 412 others.As per data, CCTV cameras linked to police surveillance systems helped solve 18 murder cases in Meerut (highest in the state), followed by Agra (13) and Bareilly (12). The Agra zone led the charts with 50 solved cases of loot and dacoity, while Meerut came second (33), followed by Varanasi (30).Agra also witnessed the highest number of solved abductions. In the past four months, of 46 abduction cases solved, 18 are from Agra zone, followed by seven in Kanpur and six in Varanasi.Since Trinetras launch, over 7 lakh CCTV cameras have been installed at over 2.47 lakh places across the state. Special DG (law & order) Prashant Kumar said, Operation Trinetra is a reflection of UP Polices commitment to curb crime using technology. CCTVs have been used to crack cases earlier as well but this initiative has given the much-needed impetus without losing crucial hours.
