11k Bijnor farmers hit by monsoon floods: Survey

BIJNOR: A survey by the district administration in Bijnor showed that around 11,000 farmers there have incurred heavy losses as monsoon floods affected crops over 3,000 hectares.As many as 12 mainstream and seasonal rivers, including the Ganga and its tributaries Malan, Kho, Ramganga, Gagan, Baan, Dhara, Pili, Nakta, Banaili, Chhoiya, etc., flow through the district. Over 321 of around 2,100 villages in the district were affected by flood water. Officials on Tuesday said that the most affected regions are Chandpur, Dhampur, and Nagina tehsils. According to additional district magistrate (finance and revenue), Arvind Kumar Singh, We did the survey to assess crop loss in Bijnor. At least 10,925 farmers are eligible to avail Krishi Input Subsidy Scheme benefits as they suffered 33% crop loss. The total loss is estimated to be around Rs 6.5 crore and a demand has been sent to the state administration.The scheme provides subsidies for crops affected by drought or floods. Farmers, who have suffered around 33% crop loss, can avail of the benefit for a maximum of 2 hectares. The maximum compensation under the scheme is Rs 17,000 per hectare. However, it depends on the variety of crops. The decision will affect paddy cultivation in the region, which is considered the rice bowl of the state. Instead, farmers are being urged to cultivate crops that consume less water, such as black gram, chilli, and toor dal. Several districts, including Tiruvuru and Gampalagudem, have been declared drought-hit mandals due to poor rainfall.
