MEERUT: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) asked the Meerut municipal commissioner to appear before it, stating the action-taken report submitted by the corporation "did not reflect any significant progress in... the disposal of legacy waste" at the Lohiya Nagar dumpsite. In its order on Tuesday, the tribunal observed, "It is not disputed by the counsel for the municipal corporation, Meerut that as of now, around 6-7 lakh tonnes of legacy waste is still lying at Lohiya Nagar dumpsite. On the perusal of the report, we do not find any concrete plan to dispose of said legacy waste as well as for waste daily generated which ultimately results in legacy waste as it remains unprocessed."The three-member tribunal bench was responding to the report filed by the corporation on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activist Lokesh Khurana against rising garbage dumps.
