MEERUT: A 14-year-old girl, who went "missing" in the middle of the night from Meerut city, was seen in a widely circulated CCTV footage, purportedly chased by three youths of her locality. "The entire case looks very suspicious," a senior cop said on Friday, adding: "The minor was spotted at multiple locations between 2.30am and 4am on November 23."Circle officer (Kotwali), Amit Kumar Rai, said on Friday, "The footage from several CCTV cameras was scanned. In one, three youths could be seen returning to their houses within minutes (after chasing her on a narrow lane). She could also be seen walking incoherently in two other places. Another footage shows her taking a lift from a trucker and getting down at Kithore, about 20kms from Meerut city, and walking into the darkness."The CO added: "A few truckers, who were later detained, admitted to giving her a lift. Our teams are trying to locate her in Kithore. We came to know she was walking towards Mau Khas. There are no CCTV cameras in the rural belt. Were following traditional methods of asking locals, among others, for her whereabouts."A police officer, part of the investigation, said the girls father has criminal antecedents and is currently in jail for motorcycle theft. "They belong to a low-income group and have no regular means of livelihood. She studied till Class V and dropped out of school," he added. Once the purported video was uploaded on social media and UP Police were tagged, an FIR under IPC section 363 (kidnapping) was registered against three youths -- Mohit Kumar, Nikki Kumar and Sikander (all in early 20s) -- on the complaint of the girls brother.
