MEERUT: Two more suspects were arrested in Meerut on Monday, two weeks after a group of men had assaulted and urinated upon a 20-year-old student over a brief argument on the night of November 13 while he was on his way to distribute Diwali sweets to his relatives. Police picked up the main accused, Ashish Malik, 24, who had allegedly urinated on the students face on Sunday. The arrests came only after a video was widely shared on social media. In the video, the student, who recently completed his class 12, could be seen purportedly begging for mercy even as Ashish humiliates him while his aides assault and abuse.Meerut SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said, "We started our investigation after learning about the incident. An FIR was registered on a complaint by the victims father under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) on November 16. IPC section 294 (obscene acts) was added later. The accused, who lives in the same locality in Meerut city, were initially on the run. The other accused, Rajan Gujjar (22) and Mohit Thakur (23), were arrested on Monday."The students family pointed out that all three accused secured bail from Meerut district court on Monday "within hours of their arrest". His father said, "All IPC sections (against the perpetrators) are bailable. That night, my son was abducted and taken away to a forest by 6-7 men. He was kept there for hours -- humiliated, assaulted and abused. Even after our request cops did not book the men under charges of abduction." He added: "He was thrashed with belts. They tried to crush his hand with bricks. He suffered a fractured finger and cuts and bruises all over his body. He was too traumatised and ashamed to narrate the way he was humiliated by Ashish. We came to know of it much later once the video started circulating on social media. We may have to consult a psychiatrist now."Meanwhile, his elder sister (26) said that her brother, who was hospitalised for two days, has completely isolated himself. She added: "He doesnt even leave the bed for food. Hes scared that those men may return and hurt him more. He is worried about my safety as well, as they threatened to harm me... If they had anything against my brother, they couldve handed him to the cops."
