Man killed, 3 of family hurt in clash over tree felling on disputed land

Bijnor: A 23-year-old man died and three members of his family were seriously injured in firing when they objected to a man felling trees on disputed land in Kuan Kheda area here on Sunday.Govind Singh died on the spot due to a gunshot wound, while his father Gurdeep Singh, 60, mother Meera Bai, 55, and brother Amrik Singh alias Bobby, 25, were injured.Police said the accused Bhupendra Singh lives in Mumbai and had come to the village a few days ago. He was fencing his field after felling trees on disputed land when the family objected. After an argument, Singh allegedlyfired them with his licensed revolver.Initially, he fired in the air but he shot the couple and their two sons. While one son died, the other family members were injured. The three were referred to a higher medical centre for treatment and the sons body was sent to the district hospital for autopsy.Bijnor SP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said, "Police inspected the crime scene and a case was registered against Bhupendra Singh and he was arrested. Prima facie, it seems there was a dispute between Bhupendra and Govinds family over the cutting of trees on the boundary of their fields.
