Murder accused on bail killed, 2 cops suspended

Meerut: Two policemen have been suspended after a man, who had approached them to report death threats, was allegedly killed by four of his relatives who lived in the neighbourhood in Lukadhari village under the jurisdiction of Hastinapur police station on Sunday.Police have arrested two men for allegedly murdering Ankit Chauhan (28), who was an accused in another murder that occurred three years ago and was released on bail last year.While Bablu Saini (23) and Arihant Saini (22) have been arrested, Mukesh Saini and Udayveer Saini are absconding.Villagers said four relatives of Vinod Saini threatened to kill Chauhan to avenge his murder and he was killed on Sunday despite him having approached the cops earlier. Mawana CO Ashish Sharma said Ankit and his three brothers had killed Vinod Saini, a relative of the four accused, after a brawl over a garbage dumping spot in 2020. All four were booked for murder and sent to jail before being released on bail last year. Meerut SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan attached Parikshitgarh SHO Ramesh Chand Sharma to police lines and suspended two cops for dereliction of duty and inaction in the case.
