MEERUT: After inauguration and successful operation of the Duhai-Sahibabad 17-km priority section of the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS), now known as Namo Bharat, the NCRTC is all set to begin trials of the Duhai-Modinagar South section. "The infrastructure is complete for the 12-km Duhai-Modinagar South stretch. Were ready to start trials in a fortnight," said Puneet Vats, CPRO, NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation), the nodal body tasked with erecting the Rs 30,270-crore, 82-km, high-speed Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut rail infrastructure. He added, Track-laying is almost complete until Meerut South (near Partapur area where Delhi-Meerut Expressway ends) and the overhead electric traction is half-way through. Hopefully, by January-end our trials will reach that point. According to NCRTC sources, the entry-exit points at the four stations between Duhai and Meerut South are at the finishing stages. Its committed to finish the entire project by 2025. The RRTS project is the first among the three corridors. After the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is complete, Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat corridors are lined up in phase 1. The RRTS network aims to reduce commuter journey time in the region with high speed (160 kmph) and high frequency (5- 10 mins) operations. For non-stop journeys, the technology chosen would allow covering distances of 100 km in under 45–50 mins. The network would ensure seamless, multi-modal integration with railway stations, bus depots, airport, and Metro stations. The network will reduce the commute time from Meerut to Delhis Sarai Kale Khan to 50 minutes.
