Police seize house of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s sister

Meerut: In a joint operation, Meerut and Prayagraj police have confiscated a residence in Meeruts Bhawani Nagar locality connected to the slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. The house has been seized as part of the investigation into the Umesh Pal murder case.Atiq, a former Samajwadi Party MP, and his brother Khalid Azim were killed by three men on a motorcycle on April 15, hours after the last rites of his son Asad Ahmed, who was gunned down in a police encounter in Jhansi two days ago.His sister, Ayesha Noori, owns the seized property. Ayesha and her daughter are currently on the run.Police took control of the house under the jurisdiction of Nauchandi police station on Friday, as part of the investigation into the Umesh Pal murder case. They had posted a notice on the wall on August 19 asking Ayesha Noori to surrender within 20 days, failing which the house would be seized. The occupants of the house were taken into custody and placed at the local police station.Nauchandi SHO Subodh Kumar Saxena said, Approximately Rs 80,000 worth of belongings were seized from the house, and a vigilant neighbour was assigned to report any suspicious activities to the local police.In April this year, Dr Akhlaq Ahmed, Atiqs brother-in-law, was arrested by the Lucknow unit of the Special Task Force from the same property.
