On Thursday the elephants were accorded ceremonial welcome when they came to Mysuru from the forest camp, followed by more rituals at palace.

The Dasara elephants led by Abhimanyu reached the Mysuru Palace premises after a warm and traditional welcome at the Jayamarthanda gate. The ceremony marks the countdown to the annual nada habba Dasara which starts from October 17 and culminates with the Jamboo Savari on October 26.

On Thursday the elephants were accorded ceremonial welcome when they came to Mysuru from the forest camp, followed by more rituals at palace. Puja were conducted to welcome the jumbos who were showered with flower petals and received guard of honor from the police.

This time it was different than it was before Covid-19, when elephants marched through the main roads of the city to reach the palace this year they were brought in trucks because of the pandemic.

In the run up to Jamboo Savari the elephants will have regular weight checks and will be put on special diet. Abhimanyu who is the howdah elephant this time will begin weight training along with other pachyderms- Gopi, Vikrama, Vijaya and Kaveri within few days.

Meanwhile the district administration is seeking permission from the government to have 2000 people on Vijayadashmi day to witness the Jamboo Savari procession inside the Palace premises and a maximum attendance of 1500 people for the cultural programs on each of the nine days of the festival.
