Staff Reporter and Chandrapur Correspondent :The forest officials of buffer zone of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) shifted two female tiger cubs to Gorewada Rescue Centre on Saturday morning. “Both cubs were shifted at Animal Hospital in Gorewada Wildlife Rescue Centre for further upkeep and treatment. Veterinarians of the hospital are taking care of both the cubs” said Pramod Panchbhai Project Manager Gorewada Wildlife Rescue Centre to The Hitavada. Gorewada Zoo to open from Jan 23 The Gorewada Zoo will finally open its doors for tourists from January 23.

Staff Reporter and Chandrapur Correspondent : The forest officials of buffer zone of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) shifted two female tiger cubs to Gorewada Rescue Centre on Saturday morning. The cubs were rescued from Khadsangi range under buffer zone of TATR some two-and-a-half months back. According to the information the forest officials had found three cubs including a male and two female one in last October. The forest officials brought the three cubs to Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) for further treatment in Chandrapur. However a male cub died due to weakness and hunger. Meanwhile the tigress that abandoned its cubs is still missing. The two cubs took care at TTC since then and now both had grown strong. There is no permanent facility to house the wild animal for prolonged period at TTC. However the TATR authorities were pursuing for their transfer to Gorewada zoo with the department. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) Nagpur has sent the orders to shift the two female tiger cubs to Gorewada Zoo recently. Accordingly the department took the cubs to Nagpur in a separate cages and handed over them to Gorewada zoo on Saturday morning. “Both cubs were shifted at Animal Hospital in Gorewada Wildlife Rescue Centre for further upkeep and treatment. Veterinarians of the hospital are taking care of both the cubs” said Pramod Panchbhai Project Manager Gorewada Wildlife Rescue Centre to The Hitavada. Gorewada Zoo to open from Jan 23 The Gorewada Zoo will finally open its doors for tourists from January 23. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will inaugurate the Indian Safari which is the first phase of the project through video conferencing. Forest Minister Sanjay Rathod will physically inaugurate the zoo. The Indian Safari is constructed on 150 ha area in the zoo. In the second phase Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) will construct African Safari at 90 ha area night safari at 45 ha bird park on 7 ha and bio-park on 30 ha area. Ashfaque Ahmed Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd. prepared the master plan of the zoo while Laxmi Engineering Services of Kolhapur carried out the work.
