After Minister Deshmukhs intervention MUHS postpones exams to June Principal Correspondent : Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has postponed its examinations slated to begin on April 19. Now all the examinations conducted by the university will start from June 2. Timely intervention of Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh who discuss the issue with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray led to postponement of the examination. Also Deshmukh discussed the issue with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Nana Patole about postponing the examination. Amidst the demand of postponement of the examination Amit Deshmukh testified that he would take a decision in the next 72 hours after discussion with the Chief Minister. Amit Deshmukh In his tweet Amit Deshmukh said “The detailed schedule of the examination will be announced by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). We feel the situation is not right to hold examinations putting everybodys life at risk.” Controller of Examinations at MUHS Dr Ajit Pathak is trying his best as he has to manage the changes in the schedule and has to convey the same to the students. He said “The written examinations of all the students of all the faculties of Winter 2020 and Summer 2021 are being conducted offline. Considering COVID-19 situation in State the examinations have been postponed. There are lot of messages doing rounds on social media about the examinations which students should ignore. They should keep checking the update on the official website of MUHS.” As per the revised timetable examinations of all the faculties of first second and third year degree course of phase III will be held between June 2 and June 21. The supplementary examinations of first year medical faculty will be conducted from June 2 to June 21. The examination of Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology will commence on June 3 and end on June5. The written examination of Mid-level Service Provider course will be held between June 2 and June 4. Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule too in her tweet had expressed concern over the issue. This time she had requested Amit Deshmukh to postpone the examinations. About 50000 students will appear in the examination. Given this number the possibility of the spread of the corona virus at present cannot be ruled out. In case of medical students the examinations cant be held on-line. Therefore there was a constant demand from the students that the examination should be postponed informed Deshmukh. Remaining (Winter 2020 MBBS examinations) (2019 batch) UG courses I II III year and university UG/PG/Certificate courses were to commence from April 19 2021 will now start from June 2 2021 Ad hoc DSB teachers to be regularised Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh on Thursday assured the delegation of medical teachers that he would take constructive decision on regularising contractual ad hoc teachers. He has asked the officials to prepare the proposals in that regard as early as possible. The Hitavada has been raising this issue consistently. “A proposal should be made immediately to pay the Assistant Professors and Medical Officers of the Government Medical Colleges in the State as per the regular pay scale and not on contract basis” said Deshmukh. He was speaking at a meeting organised through video conferencing where Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association and associations of medical officers working in government medical colleges and hospitals were present. Medical Education Director Dr Tatyarao Lahane Dr Sachin Mulkootkar and Dr Sameer Golawar as well as Dr Rewat Kavinde of MSMTA and other associations attended the meeting. The Minister asked officials to make proposal to regularise the services of Assistant Professors working in Medical Colleges who have not completed two years of service but are making significant contribution in dealing with the corona pandemic in the State. Amit Deshmukh directed the officials that orders be issued to regularise the services of professors whose services have been in ad hoc form for the last several years.
