Record single-day toll of 113 in distt; 75 of them from cityPrincipal Correspondent :Though there is some fluctuation in new COVID-19 cases in Nagpur district the number of persons becoming corona-free also is rising while COVID-19 death count continues to haunt the administration and healthworkers. Of 113 persons who died of coronavirus 6 persons were not the residents of Nagpur district. Of the cumulative death count of district 961 persons were not the residents of Nagpur district. Despite good number of recoveries the recovery rate is going down because number of recovered persons is not matching with the number of persons testing positive. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined.

Today the toll crossed 100 mark as 113 persons succumbed to the dreaded disease. Nagpur city also has witnessed all-time high death count with 75 succumbing to the coronavirus. Nagpur rural has registered 32 deaths. Of 113 persons who died of coronavirus 6 persons were not the residents of Nagpur district. This has taken the cumulative death count to 6386. Of the cumulative death count of district 961 persons were not the residents of Nagpur district. New positive cases have continued to come between the range of 5000 and 7000. Today also 6364 persons tested positive for coronavirus in Nagpur district. Cases in Nagpur rural has witnessed quite a good fall as 1780 have tested positive. Of course Nagpur city continues to witness more cases. Today 4578 persons tested positive in city. Of todays count 6 persons are not the residents of Nagpur district. This has taken the cumulative count of positive cases to 329470 of these 1143 persons are not the residents of Nagpur. Number of recovery continues to rise in the district. On Monday 5097 persons became corona-free taking the cumulative recovery to 252687. Despite good number of recoveries the recovery rate is going down because number of recovered persons is not matching with the number of persons testing positive. The recovery rate of district has witnessed further fall to 76.70%. With laboratories in district have stopped taking new samples to be examined for coronavirus and keep examining the samples they have collected already the testing count has come down to 17978. The low testing count is to be attributed to less number of testing in Nagpur rural. Nagpur rural has registered 4580 testing and citys count stood at 13398. With these the cumulative testing count reached 2014832. The samples examined through RTPCR were 13448 while 4580 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (1632) Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (1485) molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (774) National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (267) Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (720) private laboratories (8570) Antigen (4530). Death row convict dies due to COVID-19 Staff Reporter A death row convict in 2006 Mumbai train bombings died due the novel coronavirus at Government Medical College and Hospital in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. He was lodged in Central Jail Nagpur for last five years. The deceased was identified as Kamal Mohd Ansari (50) a resident of Bihar. Jail Superintendent Anup Kumre said that Ansari was admitted to the hospital on April 9. The jail administration had conducted test of the jail inmates on April 8. Before receiving reports of the testing Ansari was rushed to the hospital as he complained of bad health. He died during treatment on Monday at 1 am. Ansari was convicted in 2006 Mumbai train bombings. He was transferred to Nagpur Central Jail in 2015-16 he said. He was lodged in the special cell of the jail. On April 8 a total of eight jail inmates were tested positive. Later the number increased to 13. Of them two were admitted to GMC&H and one was admitted to Pachpaoli Quarantine Center.
