An Afghan man who illegally lived in India for 10 years has now joined the Taliban.

An Afghan man who has stayed in Maharashtra`s Nagpur for ten years till June 2021 is suspected to join Taliban now. This knowledge comes after his gun-holding picture going viral on social media, says a senior police officer.

Named Noor Mohammad, of 30 deported from India as he was found staying in the country illegally.

"The Afghan man was found staying in Nagpur for the last 10 years illegally. He was living in a rented place in the Dighori area of the city. Acting on a tip-off, the police had started keeping a watch on his activities. He was finally nabbed and deported to Afghanistan on June 23," PTI quoted the police official as saying.

The security agencies have found that the Afghan national had come to Nagpur in 2010 on a six-month tourist visa. Later, he had applied to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) seeking refugee status for himself, but his application was rejected. His appeal was also turned down by the UNHRC. Since then, he stayed in Nagpur illegally, the official said.

Earlier in June, the security agencies had claimed Noor was a pro-Talibani, whose overt support to the Afghanistan-based ultra-fundamentalist outfit was evident in his social media activities.

Another police official said that Noor Mohammad`s original name is Abdul Haque and his brother was working with the Taliban.
