Nagpur: Even as Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil ended his hunger strike on Thursday following chief minister Eknath Shindes request, the OBC and Kunbi community members in Vidarbha are unwilling to take back their protest. All Kunbi and OBC Action Committee, an umbrella body of all organizations from both communities, along with the National OBC Federation (NOF), would stage a protest march on Nagpur collectorate on Monday. The march would begin from the Samvidhan Square at 1 pm and end with a representation to the district collector.Besides political parties, several other organisations are expected to join the agitators at Samvidhan Square to extend their support to the cause. They have assured to fight against any attempt to include Marathas in the OBC quota.Addressing media persons on Thursday, National OBC Federation president Baban Taywade asked the government if it wanted to do injustice to over 400 castes by allowing certificates to Maratha Kunbis. The OBCs have now united. If anyone wants to play with their rights, they will give a befitting reply, he said.Asserting that the OBCs were taken for granted by all political parties since Independence, Taywade said justice should have been done in 1952 itself, but they were made to wait till 1992 when the Mandal Commission finally granted them reservation. The government seems to be favouring a particular community. However, the OBC community has over 400 castes with over 60% votes. It is up to the government whether they want our votes or not. Leaders of all political parties cutting across the party lines are together on the issue.CM must reveal on what terms Patil ended stirTaywade demanded that CM Eknath Shinde must tell the people on what terms Jarange Patil ended his hunger strike of 15 days. Patil had made five demands for withdrawing from his protest. It would not be wrong to assume that the government had accepted it, he said.BJP rural president and former MLA Sudhakar Kohale, who was accompanying Taywade, said BJP fully supported OBCs demand of no compromise on their 27% reservation quota. The Mali Mahasangh has declared a symbolic protest against the governments plans to extend reservation to Marathas. They argue that including Marathas in the OBC quota, which already has 27% reservation, would be unfair to all communities. The Mali community plans to stage protests across the state and has called for a caste-wise census to accurately determine backwardness. They do not oppose reservation for Marathas but believe it should be granted separately.OBC certificates only for those with Kunbi proof not enough, says JarangeManoj Jarange, a Maratha reservation activist, has been on a hunger strike for 10 days, protesting against the government resolution that only allows Maratha community members with evidence of Kunbi ancestry to receive OBC certificates. Jarange believes that the quota benefits should be available to the entire community and has vowed to continue his hunger strike until this is recognized. Former minister Arjun Khotkar attempted to persuade Jarange to end his strike, but was unsuccessful. A delegation of subject experts and Maratha reservation activists will be meeting with the government in Mumbai to discuss the issue.
