Nagpur: Thanks to the growing awareness of organ donation in rural areas of Vidarbha, the family of Mithun Chavhan, a 35-year-old farm labourer hailing from Fulumari Manora village in Washim, made a remarkable decision in the face of tragedy. After a road accident claimed Chavhans life, his family, with the consent of his wife Priyanka, and brother Amit, chose to donate his organs. The organ donation has given a new lease of life to three individuals in need. The organs donated included both of Chavans kidneys and his liver, and these life-saving gifts were allocated by the Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) in Nagpur. Chavhan, while returning home, fell off his bike, resulting in a severe accident. His relatives took him to Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital (AVBRH) in Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha where he underwent a battery of tests and treatments. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and doctors determined that Chavhan had suffered acute brain hemorrhage and was brain dead. Dr Vitthal Shinde initiated a discussion with Chavhans grieving family about the possibility of organ donation. The family agreed to donate his liver and both kidneys. Kidney 1 found its recipient in a 29-year-old male at AVBRH, Wardha, while kidney 2 brought renewed hope to a 43-year-old man at Kims-Kingsway Hospital, Nagpur. The green corridor, facilitated under the guidance of DCP Traffic Police Chetana Tidke, enabled the safe and swift transport of kidney 2 from AVBRH Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, to Kims-Kingsway Hospital, Nagpur.
