Nagpur: The disabled child of a deceased ex-serviceman was not getting pension for want of a disability certificate. Officials of the armys Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat (UMANG) sub-area coordinated with civilian authorities, and even used Right to Information (RTI) to get a reason for the delay in getting the certificate. The case was complicated by the fact that the name of the daughter in Army records and Aadhaar were completely different.Rigorous efforts were made to prove that both were the same person, to start the pension, said an official. In another case, a veteran had left behind two disabled children. The pension, which was held up, was cleared after the certificates were obtained. One of them was also given employment in the sub-area.Former servicemen are our prime focus, says General-Officer-Commanding (GOC) of UMANG Major General SK Vidyarthi. The sub-area was shifted to Nagpur in 2018. It is now fully established, with teething troubles solved. UMANG covers a large part of Maharashtra, including Vidarbha, and Gujarat, said Vidyarthi.Providing health facilities is also a major target. A number of hospitals have been empanelled for taking specialized treatment. There are polyclinics, including in Nagpur, where veterans can have hassle-free treatment.Access to canteen facilities is another important area where the sub-area ensures that veterans are catered to without any trouble. tnnWe also published the following articles recentlyEfforts on to free veterans in Qatar, says Navy chiefThe Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R.
