Nagpur: Residents of KT Nagar under Dharampeth zone have gone without drinking water for the last three days though their locality was not in the NMC list of areas that will not get water from November 4 to 8. A water tanker was sent on Saturday, but some residents claimed they had to buy water to meet their day to day household requirements.Earlier, the Orange City Works (OCW) had issued a letter notifying areas in Dhantoli and Dharampeth zones for water supply clousure between November 4 and 8 because of water tank cleaning work. However, the list didnt mention KT Nagar as one of the affected areas while the residents too said they didnt receive prior alerts from the utility.Meanwhile, assistant municipal commissioner Prakash Warade and executive engineer (water works) Shirkant Waikar said no complaint was lodged with the municipal corporation authorities regarding disruption in water supply to KT Nagar. However, a OCW spokesperson said the concerned engineer met one of the complainants and assured him that the supply will resume on Sunday morning. The resident was told that the disruption in water supply was a result of damaged valve and that the pair work will be completed soon.A member of KT Nagar Residents Welfare Associations said the water supply to the area has been erratic for the last six months. Earlier there was a dedicated supply line. Regular supply got disrupted after the pipelines were extended. Now, the tap pressure is constantly low and supply is limited to one hour daily, the member complained.Another resident said they called up OCW officials when their taps went dry on November 2. We were told that the supply lines tripped at 7.30am. It takes just 30 minutes to restore the fault and the time to release water for our area is 9am. Yet they didnt release water on Thursday. Next day, we were told that a glitch occurred at Gorewada and other areas too didnt receive water. Same day, they discovered a damaged valve in KT Nagar by chance. However, it wasnt fixed on that day but kept pending for Saturday, the resident said. The resident said most of the 200 homes in the area dont have ground water source and depend on NMC to meet their water needs. The unannounced water cuts caused a lot of inconvenience to the locals.
