NAGPUR: Women commandos deployed in one of the most inhospitable and treacherous terrain at the farthest post of Dandakaranya forests — a Maoist hotbed — had a very special brother on bhai dooj. Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday flew down to the Pipli Burgi police station on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border to display solidarity with security forces, who battle armed guerrillas at a critical intersection in Indias Red Corridor. After the bhai-dooj rituals, the chief minister vowed logistical support, improved infrastructure and more benefits to security personnel in the conflict zone, said a source accompanying Shinde. This police station on the state border would ensure better security for the local population, the chief minister said, while lauding efforts of C-60 commandos of Gadchiroli police and other security personnel deployed in the area. Now, villagers come forward to support police in securing their land and serving society, he said, pointing to the dadalora khidki scheme that acts as an interface with villagers on government schemes.
