Mahayuti, MVA face-off likely in House on Maratha quota during winter session

Nagpur: Maratha quota is set to rock the winter session of assembly here with the state government promising to discuss the contentious issue and the ruling Mahayuti and opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) gearing up to cross swords and win brownie points. The issue is likely to be taken up for discussion on the second day of the session on December 8.While the ruling dispensation led by chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar assured quota spearhead Manoj Jarange on granting reservation, the opposition tossed a question to the government on how it could fulfil its promise as only the Centre and Supreme Court could adjudicate on the matter.We will ask the government to hold a dialogue with the OBC community and address their grievances, leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar told TOI.According to him, many demands, including caste census on lines of Bihar and constructing 300 hostels for students were not considered. We are surprised by the governments assurance on Maratha reservation, which is not in their hands. Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati criticized Bhujbal for disturbing social harmony in the state.Reimburse fees of OBC and EWS girl students, suggests cabinet sub-panel on Maratha quotaThe cabinet sub-committee on Maratha reservation in Maharashtra has proposed that the state government should reimburse educational fees for girl students from the OBC community with an annual income below Rs 8 lakh, as well as those from the economically weaker section. The proposal will be presented to the cabinet for approval, and funds will be allocated in the state budget for pending fee reimbursements. In addition, a survey will be conducted to assess the social and educational backwardness of the Maratha community, with the help of various institutes.
