Nagpur: State Youth Congress chief Kunal Raut, who is also the son of former cabinet minister Nitin Raut, seems set for his electoral debut from Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency next year, say sources in Congress party. To ensure no local objection comes up, a silent understanding is said to have been reached with former union minister Vilas Muttemwars group on Kunals nomination.Strong fault lines exist in the Congress. Factions owing allegiance to Raut, Muttemwar and Saoner MLA Sunil Kedar are active and their actions become apparent during polls when each camp tries to corner party nominations for their candidates.Kunals candidature seems to have a passive backing of the Muttemwar camp as the latter is not much interested in Ramtek. Kunal Raut told TOI, I am interested in contesting from Ramtek and will follow the party procedure. However, there are factions within Congress as partymen are working as a team.A party leader close to Muttemwar said, In Congress, people speak freely due to its democratic set up and thats why it is picked up by the media. Kunal is focussing on Ramtek and I dont think its an issue. Rumours are rife that Kunals candidature was finalised in a trade-off with Muttemwar group on an assurance that Raut wont interfere in Nagpur city politics. However, both sides denied any such truce.
