The protesters alleged that despite administrative approval and funds, the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis-Ajit Pawar government is conspiring to relocate the hospital to Mihan betraying the trust of citizens. The Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital Rescue Action Committee, formed by a coalition of political parties and social organizations, spearheaded this movement from 10am in front of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital and Research Centre on Kamptee Road. Well-known persons, including former state minister Nitin Raut, expressed solidarity with the cause and condemned the government. The MVA government had approved a budget of ₹1,156.56 crore for the 615-bed hospital. This hospital played a crucial role during the health crises like chikungunya outbreak and the Covid-19 pandemic, has witnessed a surge in outpatient numbers, reaching up to 3,000 during peak times. Now, the government is planning to shift it to the Mihan which we wont let happen, Raut added.
