New docs’ body to donate 1 consultation fee a mth

Nagpur: A group of city doctors including faculty members from government medical colleges and public health department officials under the banner of CIDRA (Central India Doctors Association) on Sunday pledged one consultation fee or an equal amount per month for charitable works. Led by renowned cardiologist Dr Aziz Khan, the body appointed paediatrician Dr MS Hadi as its president, dermatologist Dr Rizwan Ul Haq as secretary and anaesthetist Dr Arif Khan as treasurer among various office bearers at a city hotel on Sunday.The newly constituted body pledged to work for uplifting madrassa kids, sponsoring educational expenses of poor and needy, holding special camps in neglected and remote areas, conducting free of cost surgeries and treatment and more.Retired judge of Bombay high court, Justice Zaka Haq who was the chief guest, said that the need is to contribute a fixed amount per week. If you have to do something big, you need to think big, he added. Haq also called for involving other professionals like lawyers and businessmen in the cause. Funds wont be an issue if objectives are met in a transparent manner, he said.Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed, one of the founding members of CIDRA, said, We would need a smooth continuous flow of funds to run such an organisation. Hence, we proposed one fee a month. We have over 250 members and it will add to at least Rs12 lakh for a year. He added that they would utilize these funds in financial aid for students, organizing career guidance workshops for madrassa kids if they wish to opt for modern education. CIDRA shall support them to become independent,added Dr Ahmed. Another founding member Cardiologist Dr Kashif Syed said, Primary intention of this organisation would be medical philanthropy and better coordination among members. We shall guide other organisations working in the healthcare and shall offer practical insights.
