City’s Jennifer bows out after a fight, India U-15 team ousted

Nagpur: City paddler Jennifer Varghese gave her all but went down to higher ranked players as the Indian Under-15 girls team bowed out of the ITTF World Youth Championships being held in Nova Gorica, Slovenia.Up against South Korea in the quarterfinals, Indian girls lost 3-1 on Monday. Though Jennifer lost both her singles matches, she gave her higher ranked opponents a run for their money.With India down 2-1, Jennifer got off to a good start and won the opening game of the decider against Yerin Yoo.But Yerin, using her experience, won the next two games to take a 2-1 lead. With her back to the wall, Jennifer stretched Yerin and won the fourth game 14-12.The decider went to the wire as both players matched each other shot for shot with the South Korean sealing the deal after a couple of deuces. Jennifer went down fighting 11-4, 8-11, 8-11, 14-12, 11-12.In the first match of the quarterfinal contest Yerin defeated Raina Bhoota 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 to give South Korea a winning start. In the second match, Jennifer went down to Nahyun Choi 11-13, 10-12, 5-11.Sayanika Maji won the first match for India as she defeated Eunseo Kim 8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 9-11.
