Nagpur: Fall of as many as 16 wickets on Day 1 on a treacherous pitch at VCAs Kalamna ground has left the Vidarbha-Mumbai Cooch Behar Trophy match wide open.The defending champions, having won their first two matches by innings margins, looked on course for another win as they bundled out Mumbai for 145. But the host batters too found the pitch too hot to handle and were left tottering at 89 for 6 by the end of Day 1.After Mumbai decided to bat, medium pacerPratham Maheshwari drew first blood on the third ball by removing Awais Khan for a duck.The other opener, Ayush Mhatre (35;35b;7x4), along with Nutan steadied the Mumbai innings.Maheshwari struck again to remove Mhatre and reduces Mumbai to 52 for 2. The introduction of Sanyog Bhagwat, fresh from his India U-19 A stint, coincided with Mumbai collapse. Bhagwat, a left-arm seamer, picked up two wickets, while Maheshwari accounted for three more as Mumbai collapsed to 64 for 7. Thanks to Abhigyan Kundu (59;94b;12x4) and Fardeeen Shaikh (20;83b;3x4), Mumbai managed to reach a respectable total. Vidarbha too began badly as they lost Aniket Askar with the score on 8. Opener Aditya Ahuja (29;61b;4x4;1x6) and Tushar Suryawanshi (22;54b;4x4) added 38 runs for the second wicket. The opening of one phase is scheduled for February 15, 2024, with the full bridge opening in May 2024. The construction is being done on municipal land, without any piers over the railway land.Rains lash Mumbai over weekendUnseasonal rain and thunderstorms hit Mumbai over the weekend, surprising residents. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning for rain and thunder activity. In the 24 hours ending Sunday morning, IMD recorded 9.2 mm and 5.2 mm of rainfall at its observatories. While a yellow alert was in place, indicating thunderstorms and heavy wind, light to moderate rains were forecasted for Monday. The heavy thunderstorm was attributed to weather systems, including a western disturbance, confluence of winds, and an upper air trough.
