Nagpur: The eighth edition of international principals conference (IPEC) concluded on Saturday with multiple speakers presenting a 360-degree view of ancient Indian knowledge systems, now being introduced in the modern education system as well. Union minister Nitin Gadkari, who delivered the valedictory speech at the event , said that teachers prepare the perfect human resource for a stronger India. Gadkari emphasised that its not important for a student to be meritorious, but to be a responsible citizen. If your student is not a good citizen, someone who doesnt wants to contribute for the betterment of the country, then it is of no use being meritorious, said Gadkari. He said the teachers have a crucial role to play in shaping their futures. If a student fails, then the teacher fails. No matter how bad a student is, it is the teachers duty to turn things around, said Gadkari.Talking about his early days as a student, the Nagpur MP said, I was in the NCC when the instructor, who was leading the parade, told us that one by one we have to step ahead, salute and shout loudly – Good morning sir, my name is so-and-so. The first student who stepped forward repeated that line verbatim and mentioned his name as so-and-so instead of his actual name, he added. This is what happens when you get into rote learning. We have people who will amass multiple degrees by just mugging up, but have they grasped any knowledge and how they will use it is questionable, said Gadkari.International principals conference which was organized by The South Public School, also had a special session by tabla maestro Anuradha Pal.
