Shah to open DRI plant at G’chiroli on December 8

Nagpur: Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Gadchiroli on December 8, where he will inaugurate the direct reduced iron (DRI) plant of Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL), first big industry coming up in the interiors of the Maoist-infested district.Apart from formally inaugurating the plant, a groundbreaking ceremony will also be held for the future projects planned by the company.The company plans an integrated steel complex at Kondseri village, where it also has theDRI plant. A total investment of Rs20,000 crore is expected.A day before Shahs visit, LMEL will be holding a board meeting in which all proposed capital expenditure for the forthcoming projects will be cleared, said a source.There are plans to have separate units to make pellets, cold rolled and hot rolled steel, a slurry pipeline for transporting iron ore from its mines around 100km away in the same district. As a part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) measures, the company plans to set up a hospital and a training institute in garment making too, said a source.The state government is banking on the LMELs project to give impetus to Gadchirolis economy. In a recent visit to the district, Maharashtra industries minister Uday Samant had cleared a proposal to allot 1,000 acres to the company for building the integrated steel complex.The LMEL has an iron ore mine in the district and so far it is the sole mining company operational in Gadchiroli. Maharashtra government has also awarded composite licences to other companies including JSW Steel and Nagpurs Sunflag Iron and Steel. The government is determined to strengthen the small-scale industry and support new entrepreneurs. They have already created over five thousand entrepreneurs through the Chief Ministers Employment generation scheme and another 13,256 new entrepreneurs in the last nine months. The government is also appealing to the private sector entrepreneurs to collaborate with them and make schemes like the Mukhyamantri Rozgar Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana successful.
