‘Discriminations against Dalits still on since Independence’

Ranchi: Various organisations, including Dalit Soshan Mukti Manch and the Bhartiya Buddhist Society Mahasangh on Tuesday raised concerns over prevailing unemployment, illiteracy and the attack on the Dalit communities in Jharkhand and other parts of the country.Addressing a gathering at old Vidhan Sabha building, the main speaker and former MP Ramchandra Dome said Dalits and the Scheduled Castes (SC) are facing the worst impact of social discrimination even after 76 years of Independence.He accused the Centre of bringing in amendments to render the laws related to preventing atrocities against SCs and the STs ineffective. He said all the exploited sections of society should come together to fight against deprivation of their rights. The former MP said a large number of Dalits in Jharkhand are landless and they are also being displaced from the forest as they have not been provided land pattas under the Forest Rights Act. He said due to unemployment, a significant section of Dalit population migrates from Jharkhand for work. The reading was a record-breaking event with 2.3 crore people participating. Mahadevappa and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conceptualized the idea to protect the Constitution and raise awareness about its principles. The reading of the preamble has been made mandatory in schools and colleges, but some schools may find it difficult to implement. Mahadevappa believes private schools will regret not instilling the Constitutions principles in children. The government has launched an app called Samanathe to gather feedback on social equality.Congress govts did nothing for OBCs and DalitsPresident of BJP OBC Morcha, K Laxman, criticized Rahul Gandhi for disrespecting backward communities. Laxman accused the previous Congress governments of neglecting the backward classes and claimed that the BJP under Narendra Modi has made efforts for their betterment. He also accused the opposition of promoting nepotism, casteism, corruption, appeasement, and crime. Laxman stated that no section of society supports parties like Congress, SP, and BSP, and claimed that every section supports the BJP. The BJP OBC Morcha plans to use social media to expand the partys reach.
