Several devotees throng city roads

Ranchi: Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, was celebrated with enthusiasm by devotees amid elaborate security measures in Ranchi on Thursday. Tens of thousands of devotees dressed in traditional attire and carrying flags with messages celebrating the Prophets birthday took part in the processions, which were taken out from the city. General secretary of Edara e Sharia Qutubuddin Rizwi said around 135 small processions were taken out in Ranchi city and 300 in the entire district. In one of the processions held at the Qureishi Mohallah, the participants were only children. The processions reached the Karbala Chowk from where it progressed towards Ekra Masjid where a sermon was given by priests. Then, the devotees moved towards Risaldar Baba Mazaar in Doranda from where they dispersed. The police and committee have agreed to a 1pm deadline for the processions, which will start at 7am. The decision was made in order to avoid putting stress on the police administration and to ensure law and order is maintained.
