Ranchi: As monsoon has gradually started withdrawing, the state agriculture department announced opening of the registration of farmers to provide compensation for their crop loss due to the vagaries of weather. The state is apparently staring at a second consecutive year of drought this year. Though the state witnessed good rain in recent weeks, bringing down the overall deficit, the slow and erratic start to the Kharif season caused damage to the farmers because of the untimely rain and poor sowing. The state government is yet to declare drought and send a proposal to the Centre but it has initiated to compensate the losses suffered by farmers under the Jharkhand Rajya Fasal Rahat Yojana.State agriculture minister Badal Patralekh said they are keeping an eye on the situation to take appropriate action and has asked the farmers to register themselves to avail compensation for the Kharif crops. All districts have been asked to register farmers by setting up camps at block and panchayat levels till October 15, he added.Under the scheme, all farmers who are residents of the state and above 18 years of age, are eligible to apply for the compensation. Farmers must have valid Aadhaar cards, land and other documents to prove that they are practising farmers and must have at least 10 decimal or a maximum five-acre land, reads the notification uploaded on the agriculture departments website. An official of the department said farmers can register themselves either on https://jrfry.jharkhand.gov.in/ or visit the local common service centre (CSCs). Farmers who had enrolled/registered with the scheme last year need to pay Rs 10 while new farmers will have to pay Rs 40 as registration fees at the time of uploading their mandatory identification details, he said. For crop losses between 30% and 50%, an amount of Rs 3,000 per acre will be given while Rs 4000/acre will be compensated if the loss is more than 50% of the cultivated land, the official said.We also published the following articles recentlySriganganagar farmers in Jaipur to seek compensationFarmers from Sriganganagar in Jaipur are demanding full compensation for cotton crops damaged by pink bollworms and untimely rains.
