Mobile toilets near pandals in JSR

Jamshedpur: The district administration will install portable mobile toilet vans around Durga Puja pandals in an attempt to keep the surroundings clean.DC Manjunath Bhajantri has asked the officials of the Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) to take stock of pandals and identify the sites for placing the vans.The DC, in a press communique, said that the units should be located in a way that the crowd can access them easily. Further, these shouldnt be obstructing the movement of the vehicular traffic, he said. The municipal and the Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TS UISL) officials have been asked to study and decide the number of toilet vans that are required during the pujas. Bhajantri said he realised the need for the toilet vans during the inspection of the puja pandals on Friday.Kendriya Durga Puja Samiti (KDPS), president, Achintam Gupta, said that during their meeting with the DC earlier this month, they had requested him to make sure that public toilets in the city are operational at night during the puja so that pandal hoppers face no problem.Golmuri Tuiladungri Sarvajanik Durga Puja Committee, general secretary, Dinesh Kumar, said the mobile toilets would considerably help in checking open urination in public places. There are more than 450 puja pandals in the twin cities of Jamshedpur and Adityapur which draws scores of crowd on all days during the Puja. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the deputy commissioner and attended by district administration officials and representatives of the Kendriya Durga Puja Samiti. A final decision on the matter will be taken in the next meeting. To prevent a repeat of such incidents, puja management committees have been instructed to adhere to fire safety guidelines. The department has also raised awareness about safety measures, including the use of fire extinguishers, keeping kitchens at a safe distance, and restricting the use of fireworks and smoking.
