Keenan turns classroom for budding cricketers

Jamshedpur: The old scoreboard at the historic Keenan Stadium on the Dalma hill end of the 22-yard pitch which has recorded the performance of several cricketing greats such as 1983 World Cup hero Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Clive Loyd, Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Wasim Akram and Ranchi boy Mahendra Singh Dhoni will now see budding cricketers learn the A,B,C of the game here.On Saturday, Tata Steel inaugurated the JJ Irani Cricket Academy at the 1939-built Keenan Stadium, which will train both boys and girls for the game of cricket.The academy is named after Padma Bhusan award recipient and late former managing director of Tata Steel, JJ Irani, who was an avid lover of all kinds of sports, especially cricket.The sports academy will have the backing of JJ Irani Trust run by the family of the late Tata Steel MD. Daisy Irani, the wife of JJ, who is the brainchild behind the setting up of the cricket school, said: Those boys and girls, who are from weaker economic sections of society, but are excellent in the game, will be given all kinds of facilities free of cost so that they can show their skills in the international arena and keep the countrys flag flying high.
