2 pose as cops, flee with jewellery worth Rs 2.25L

THANE: Two people posing as policemen have been booked by the city police. The accused tricked a 70-year-old woman and fled with her jewellery worth Rs 2.25 lakh.The police said that the incident occurred at the Kharegaon toll naka. The officer informed that the senior citizen was travelling in an Ola cab from Kalyan and was heading towards her house located in Balkum. At around 11am, two persons wearing masks came riding on a bike and intercepted the cab.The duo identified themselves as policemen and said that a crime had taken place in the vicinity and warned the victim against wearing glitzy jewellery. They asked her to take it off, the police said. At the same time two other fake cops intercepted another car and did the same thing which the victim noticed, and she was convinced that the accused duo were telling the truth. The victim removed her gold chain as well as bangles and rings too. One of them gave her a paper and told her to keep the valuables in the paper. The unsuspecting victim gave the jewellery to the man and they pretended to handover the paper with the jewellery back to her. Sensing something amiss the victim checked the paper and found that the jewellery was missing and they had replaced it with fake gold bangles.
