THANE: Two housekeeping staffers have been arrested while one is reported absconding after they were found stealing laptops collectively worth Rs 4.5 lakh from a private bank located in the Wagle estate area in Maharashtras Thane district.The accused were identified as Sudhir Bandal (33), a resident of Kisan Nagar, and Dipal SOnawan (22), a resident of Kalyan east."The accused started it all from August," said Kiran Kabadi, senior inspector of the Shrinagar police station.The accused knew the working of the staffers and with any new employee joining the office, these employees were given the welcome kit along with the laptop.Most of the employees would casually keep the laptops which the trio kept in the dustbin and then cover it with plastic bags to avoid getting caught on the CCTV footage. They would then go down to the basement where there was blind spot or no CCTV surveillance and then they would flee away with the laptops, said assistant police inspector Shivraj Bendre.The bank, which has an eight-floor corporate office in the Wagle estate area, reported the incident to the police who then launched the probe. The bank authorities carried out an internal probe but did not find anything fishy, said the police officer.The police then launched the probe and based on the technical analysis as well as human intelligence, zeroed in on the trio and detained them for questioning.They broke down and confessed to committing the crime. During the probe, they even found that some of the lockers that the employees had not locked were also targeted.The police said they have recovered six laptops.
