Man arrested in dandiya passes scam

Thane: The Wagle estate police arrested a man earlier this week for allegedly selling fake dandiya passes near Modella check naka and causing the organisers a loss of Rs 69,300.The accused has been identified as Nimit Thakkar, who is into event management, while one of his accomplices is said to be absconding, a police officer informed. A senior police officer added that last Saturday, at around 8.30pm, the security personnel were checking passesand allowing people with number stamp.During the same time, some of the female participants produced the passes and found that the entry passes looked the same but there were several discrepancies in the original ones and the tickets that they possessed, a police officer informed.When the security personnel enquired with the participants, one of them pointed out towards the accused. Soon he was nabbed and 99 fake passes were seized from him. His partner in crime managed to escape, but was later spotted by the police. When the police arrived at the shop, they found the thief passed out and arrested him. The thief, identified as Chaman, admitted to planning the theft with two other associates, but was too intoxicated to leave the shop. The police are still searching for the other two suspects.Pathways being passed off as structures to be razedA resort owner in Mandrem has accused the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) of rushing to issue demolition orders for structures along Pernems coast to avoid contempt proceedings. The owner argued that the targets of demolition, such as footpaths and tiled pathways, should not be considered structures. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has given the GCZMA four weeks to respond. The tribunal has also instructed the GCZMA to provide maps and measurements of the structures identified for demolition, as well as any additional structures claimed to have been constructed by the resort.
