Thane: The cyber police have launched a probe into a case where a 26-year-old woman fell prey to the YouTube video like and earn scam and her account was drained of Rs 8.6 lakh. The complainant works as an engineer with a company based in the Wagle estate area. Last month, she received a text message stating that she can earn extra money with a part time job, the police said.She affirmed to it and the fraudster sent her links of some of YouTube videos to like and told her to also subscribe to the Youtube channels.She was paid Rs 200 for liking the videos and after that she had to send the screenshots back to the fraudster through a messaging application, said the police quoting the FIR.The police said that later she was told to download another messaging application in which she was told to pay Rs 3,000 to earn more money. The accused also sent her a web-link and told her to click on it and the complainant was shown that her Rs 3,000 was now Rs 4,100. Later, she was told to pay different amounts and the web-link showed that her money had multiplied with a certain percentage.Lured into the idea that she was benefitting and getting more money, the victim started paying more online. The accused told her that if she wants to get back the invested amount she will have to pay more money and she collectively paid Rs 8.68 lakh. Later, the scamster stopped replying and the victim realised that she had been duped.
