2 more arrested in payment app scam, 9 so far

Thane: The Thane cybercrime branch has arrested two more persons in a payment gateway hacking case for allegedly providing logistical support to route the money abroad in countries like China, Singapore and Hong Kong.The police said that the arrested accused have been identified as Bhupesh Agarwal, 38 a resident of Borivali, while the other accused is identified as Mahendra Shantilal Jain 34, a Khetwadi resident in Mumbai, said a police officer.While Agarwal is into real estate business, Jain works as cheque discounting agent, informed a senior police officer from the Thane city police.So far a total of nine accused have been arrested in the case. The duo—Jain and Agarwal — in connivance with the fugitive mastermind of the crime, allegedly indulged in routing money to foreign accounts and operated from his office based in Goregaon.The arrested ex-banker Kedar Dighe was also involved in the racket and were a part of the foreign inward and outward remittance process, that they used to create the Hawala channel to route money to the foreign accounts, the police said.A police officer said, Based on the money trail unravelled till now during the probe, it is most likely that many big players could be involved in the scam who have aided in the hawala transactions and have given any kind of logistical support to the accused.The city police had initiated a probe after an unidentified person hacked the software of payment gateway company and siphoned Rs 25 crore. Subsequently, a case was registered with the Shrinagar police station in Thane. During the probe another case linked to it was registered wherein, the accused had set up many fake partnership firms to carry out dubious transactions and the police had then found transactions of more than Rs 16,180 crore in the bank accounts and the police are presently on the trail of accounts.The police said they are minutely analysing the details of all the transactions and other people involved in the racket.We also published the following articles recentlyChennai police register six sexual abuse cases, arrests fiveSeveral incidents of sexual abuse and assault have been reported in Chennai, involving juvenile girls, a juvenile boy, and women. The gang gained attention after a video of them robbing a senior citizen went viral. The incident occurred when a teenager posed as someone in need of water and allowed the other gang members to enter the victims office. The police received a tip-off and successfully arrested the four women, who had previously been arrested for similar offenses. This arrest is seen as a significant step in reducing their criminal activities.Mumbai police bust job racket, 2 arrestedTwo members of a gang have been arrested by the Mumbai city crime branch for cheating youngsters with promises of jobs abroad. The gang would ask victims to pay a fee of Rs 50,000-1 lakh, and when the victims demanded their passports back, the gang would demand an extortion amount. The gang operated under the name of Bombay consultancy and targeted youngsters with promises of jobs in Azerbaijan. Police have seized several items from the gangs office and are now looking to arrest the mastermind, Ashish Kumar, who is on the run.
