7 held for selling banned gutka

Thane: Seven paan shop owners have been arrested for allegedly stocking and selling banned gutka and tobacco products in Thane, police said on Friday. A team of officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday conducted raids and found some paan shop owners stocking up banned gutkaand tobacco products, sub-inspector Ranjit Walke of the Narpoli police station of Bhiwandi division said.PTIWe also published the following articles recentlyDespite ban, tobacco use high in cityThe usage of banned tobacco products is widespread in Kochi, despite the states ban on their sale and consumption. The excise department has seized nearly two tonnes of these products in the past five months. The reason for their continued sale is attributed to the minimal punishment for the violation and the profitable nature of the business. These products, which are a mixture of chewing tobacco and other substances, can have severe health consequences such as oral cancer and cardiac issues. A campaign is planned to make school premises tobacco-free and raise awareness about the dangers of these products.South Korea to ban all stock short-selling through June 2024South Koreas financial authorities have announced that a ban on short-selling will be reintroduced in the local stock market starting on Monday. The aim is to create a fair playing field for retail investors, as well as institutional and foreign investors. The ban had been lifted in May 2021 for large-cap stocks included in the KOSPI200 and KOSDAQ150 indices. The Financial Services Commission (FSC) stated that the new restriction is intended to address the imbalance between institutional and retail investors.Fitbit is no longer selling its products in these countriesFitbit, owned by Google, has stopped selling its products in multiple countries across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. However, the company will continue to support its wearables with software updates and customer services. The move is seen as a way for Google to promote its own wearables, such as the recently launched Pixel Watch 2. Fitbit Premium memberships purchased in the affected countries will no longer auto-renew after October 24, 2023, but active members will have access until the end of their billing period plus an additional 30 days.
