Thane: Ulhasnagar civic body issues notices to 190 constructions sites

ULHASNAGAR: In its ongoing battle against Ulhasnagars worsening air quality levels, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) in Maharashtras Thane district issued notices to 190 construction sites instructing them to mitigate air pollution.According to Chayya Dangale, public relation officer of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, civic officials issued notices to 190 construction sites, reiterating the guidelines of the latest mitigation plans. The officials also warned of stop-work notices if they were found violating the norms. A senior UMC official said that a strong warning has been given by the UMC of strict action like sealing the construction site if they were found violating the norms.In addition to this, after UMC commissioner Aziz Shaikh found many people did not listen to high courts order of bursting of crackers only between 8 pm to 10 pm, keeping in mind the MMR regions worsening air pollution. On Tuesday Shaikh held meeting with senior UMC officials and formed separate teams of UMC officials with local police who under supervision of additional municipal commissioner Jamir Lengarekar on Tuesday visited several parts of city and filed FIR against 49 people for violating the Bombay high court order of bursting firecrackers only between 8pm to 10 pm.
