THANE: Three residents, including a 10-year-old boy, of the four-storey Mughal Park building in Mumbra suffered injuries following an explosion that shook thousands of Chand Nagar locality residents out of their sleep, early Saturday morning, officials said. The injured residents have been identified as Azhar Sheikh (40), Arshu Sayyed (10), and Zeenat Mulani (50).While preliminary observations revealed the explosion could have been caused due to leakage from a cylinder stocked in a scrap dealers shop in the ground plus, the authorities deployed a forensic team and bomb detection and disposal squad to deal with any mischief. Officials said a thorough investigation is likely to be launched. There could be gas leakage from one of the cylinders stocked inside which may have got bottled up in the locked premises and may have led to the explosion following a stray spark from the power meter. We are investigating the matter further, said a senior police official adding that the scrap trader was likely to be booked in the incident. We were alerted about the explosion that was heard around 6 am on Saturday. A cab and an auto parked in the vicinity also suffered damages. The Mughal Park building is being evacuated as a major part of the first floor of the building developed cracks and around 76 residents are being shifted to a civic school temporarily, Yasin Tadvi, in-charge at the Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell, said. Meanwhile, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad who visited the area demanded a thorough probe. A gas cylinder explosion cannot have such huge impact. Residents heard a large sound and experienced a jolt that shattered windows of a few surrounding buildings which is uncommon for an LPG gas-triggered blast. I suspect some chemical reaction or something else which need investigation. Luckily, no casualties were reported. But it seems the municipal administration is waiting for a disaster to happen before corrective actions, he said.We also published the following articles recentlyFire breaks out in 24-storey building in Mumbai, 11 suffer from suffocationA fire broke out in a 24-storey residential building in Mumbais Byculla area, affecting former textile mill workers.
