Gang of 3 arrested for chain snatching and bike theft

Thane: The Thane crime branch arrested three persons and detected several cases of chain snatching as well as motor bike theft and recovered a stolen goods worth Rs 8 lakh.The arrested accused are identified as Sunil Goyal alias Pappi (21), his accomplice, Prathamesh Dhamke alias Pillya and the kingpin of racket Sahejad Shah alias Sajjo all residents of Ambivali in Kalyan.Shivraj Patil, DCP (crime) said that Assistant inspector Rupali Pol earlier this month had arrested Pappi at Panchpakhadi area and had found a country made pistol and a bike.Upon questioning, the accused named Pillya as an accomplice and that the bike he had fetched was from Sajjo.Later, the police said that they had information that Pillya was in Jalgaon hence they laid a trap and arrested him. He named Sajjo as the kingpin in the racket. Subsequently, Sajjo was also arrested by the police. During the probe, it was found that Sajjo had committed a total of 35 criminal offences and in different parts of MMR region, Pune, etc. in which 17 such cases have been committed after coming out of jail since April 23. Patil added.The police said that the accused would adjust themselves after identifying the target on road and snatch the chain especially on the secluded spots and rob the bikes on road-side.Among the cases detected were chain snatching as well as motor vehicle theft, the police have recovered jewellery worth Rs 4.21 lakh and four bikes worth Rs 4.30 lakh. The official also said that the possibility of the accused being involved in similar cases in the jurisdiction of various other police commissionerates cannot be ruled out and further investigation is underway in the case. He was returning home from a wedding in Ghaziabad when the accident occurred. The impact of the crash was so severe that his helmet broke into two. Another accident on the Hapur-Modinagar road resulted in the death of a 35-year-old biker named Robin Rana. The unknown vehicle that was trying to overtake him crashed into his bike, and the driver did not stop. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
