43-year-old gets 10 years’ RI for raping 6-year-old

Thane: The Thane court has convicted a 43-year-old man and sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a six-year-old girl in 2018. The judge, D S Deshmukh, imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on the accused, Terry Bhonkya.In his order the judge directed that once the fine amount is recovered it should be given as compensation to the victim. He also recommended the case to District Legal Service Authority, Thane for awarding compensation to the victim.The prosecution informed the court that the accused and the victim, then six years old, were neighbours.On April 20, 2018, Bhonkya sexually assaulted the girl when she was alone at home. When her mother returned home, the girl narrated the incident to her. Neighbors too told the mother that they saw Bhonkya stepping out of their house. A case has been filed under sections of Pocso at Tardeo police station.Mumbai court sentences 50-year-old man to life term for raping nieceA 50-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a POCSO court in Mumbai for sexually assaulting his niece and causing her pregnancy. The court emphasized the severity of the offense and denied any leniency. The survivor, who had an abortion, is currently residing in a shelter home. The man was found guilty of rape and repeatedly committing the crime. The court rejected the defenses claim of a consensual relationship and stated that the survivor could not have willingly engaged in a sexual relationship with her uncle.
